Mother Maria Pia
Whose daughter is she
(Biography)

It’s Grandpa Armando’s daughter
and Grandma Rina’s...

A long time ago, in the countryside of a small village in Abruzzo, Grandpa Armando and Grandma Rina, after losing two little children, bring into the world a special little girl, perhaps to get through the great pain.
And that’s how my beautiful mommy was born.
At a certain point, though, life rebels and hits her hard in the head, and then in her little heart and her throat. Maybe nothing happens by chance.
Put to the test, she gets through it, leaping over every obstacle with kindness, faith, love, strength and courage.
More than once death tries to take her away with it to unknown worlds, and with its black cloak it tries to seize her, but I stretch out a thin yet strong rope that goes straight from my heart to hers.
She grabs it and fights, without anger, as if it were nothing.
She still wants to hug me, this magnificent life, and all the people she loves.
She lives with a damn blessed suffering, the hardest one to accept.
It’s the one no one can see, but it’s there, and inside it makes too much noise—so much that it echoes outside too.
It plays hide-and-seek, it never lets itself be caught, and it never goes away. It holds your hand forever and keeps you company, and all you can do is learn to live with it.
As we know, it chooses special people, the ones who never give up, and we won’t: we’ll fight arm in arm with it at any cost, even when it eats up all your strength and knocks you out in bed...

One day I’ll tell you it better, because it could be an example to help you never give up and to learn to see the light in the blackest dark!

A pinch of mAMA

Maria Pia

Hi, my mom is called beautiful mommy, mAMA Maria Pia, mAMA Pia, Aunt Piotta for my cousins, Aunt Pia for all my friends’ kids, or simply Maria Pia.

His name already
speaks for itself.
He’s a quirky little fellow ...

Beloved singers:
Eros Ramazzotti and Gianni Morandi.
Favorite gelato:
Hazelnut and stracciatella.
Favorite dish:
Red pizza.
Favorite channel: Rai 1.
He hardly ever misses an episode of the pre-dinner shows.

Unlike me, she’s a creature of habit and has her daily routine.
Changes make her anxious.

She’s slim, but she has a sweet tooth.
Grandma almost has to put a padlock on the fridge and hide sweets under the bed—me too.
She doesn’t like drinking water; she prefers Coca-Cola.
She doesn’t drink wine or coffee, but barley coffee for breakfast and herbal teas at every chance.
She likes eating almost anything: sushi, kebab, tajine, and cuisines from everywhere.
Doesn’t eat salad, hates it, but loves cheese and wherever they see candy they immediately ask for one.
He has a tapeworm, he always thinks: what’s to eat?

By nature too kind and very thoughtful.
She always thinks of everyone and if she meets you, she flashes a big palsy smile and then at home
she prays for you too.
Before going to sleep, don’t just pray for everyone—sing, too.

She says she’d like to be a nun but she never had the calling, and then she wouldn’t have received the most precious gift in the world (me, according to her).

She’s funny and a bit quirky when, for birthdays, she wishes 199 years, yes 199…

She loves the rosary, the sea, summer hats like an American in Paris, sunglasses, red lipstick, colorful clothes, her perfume, the association,
friends, family, and children.
She never goes out without a watch and lipstick.

Her regular appointments: Little House on the Prairie, the soap opera after lunch, Divine Mercy at 3 p.m., Mass every day and the association every afternoon. For 20 years never absent except for health issues.
She loves going to the cinema, doing theatre, dancing, singing even in the car, and she’s part of a special choir.
She loves knitting and crocheting, painting, doing all kinds of crafts, and cooking for lots of people.
She has golden sleeves. Everything’s better with company; if she’s alone, she’s not into it.

She was an artist from a young age.
She made copper paintings and watercolors, embroidered, crocheted and knitted, loved cooking and studying.
Luckily, in recent years she has gone back to doing everything she liked back then.

She was shy as a girl, reserved and very polite, but also funny and good company, though she was a bit too stubborn. She only listens to me, but if she gets something into her head, no one can stop her.

Before she never spoke, now she talks nonstop, I have to stop her, it’s anxiety. And that’s why she often goes to the bathroom even if she doesn’t really need to.

The illness had left her like a vegetable in bed; now, instead, she’s back to living more than anyone. A force of nature, determined to make up for the “lost” years of illness

She really loves going out, going to parties, eating out, karaoke, but then she has to go back to her own place. She’s a real social butterfly, she’d like to go out every day and every night. She loves travelling and with me she even tried doing it off-grid in the converted camper van and since then she’d like to take it out all the time.

The illness didn’t make her bitter, it made her even more special.

It’s incredible, she never gives up and
has a big heart, maybe one of the biggest.
She lifts everyone’s spirits and sees the bright side everywhere. My little scriccioletta is such a character.
Wherever he goes to eat, he always brings me something back to taste.
When she sees me, her eyes sparkle and she loves me more than other moms.
Everyone says she’s from another planet. One of God’s most beautiful little flowers.
Anyone who knows her notices it and falls in love with her.
Just a few hours are enough to see her extraordinary inner beauty.
And when she was young they say she was among the prettiest girls in town, and in fact no gossip, the photos and the facts speak…
